The campus was established to commemorate the Golden Jubilee Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's Accession to the Throne. The primary goals of KU's branch campuses have been to offer educational programs widely throughout the Kingdom, and Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus promotes Sakon Nakhon as an educational center for the upper northeastern region of Thailand. The campus provides academic and research support to the many royal projects and royal initiatives in the region and is a resource center supporting regional agricultural development. The campus houses 4 faculties and 1 academic support office.
