The Tree Planting and Memorial Plaque Placement with the Embassy of Hungary in Bangkok

          On 24th September 2024, at Somrom Khon Krung Park @Thung Bang Khen, Office of Agricultural Museum and Culture, Kasetsart University, Bangkhen Campus, Dr. Chongrak Wachrinrat, Acting President of Kasetsart University along with KU administrators, namely Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apisit Songsasen, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Lifelong Learning; Prof. Dr. Dokrak Marod, Vice President for Research and Internationalization; Asst. Prof. Dr.rer.Soc Supapatpimol Simlee, Assistant to the President for International Affairs; Asst. Prof. Dr. Wg.Cdr. Ngamlamai Piolueang, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences; Asst. Prof. Dr. Korakit Choomgrant, Deputy Dean for International Affairs and Educational Development, Faculty of Social Sciences; Asst. Prof. Dr. Thunyapat Thongyen, Lecturer from the Department of Environmental Technology and Management, Faculty of Environment; Mrs. Hathaitus Semchuchot, Acting Director of the International Affairs Division; and IAD representatives attended the tree planting and memorial plaque placement with the Embassy of Hungary in Bangkok.

          H.E. Dr. Sandor Sipos, Ambassador of Hungary to Thailand, and Ms. Kamilla Balla, Deputy Head of Mission attended the tree planting and memorial plaque placement in honor of Mr. Imre Csavas, a Hungarian agricultural engineer, fish farming expert, and lecturer, who once served as the Regional Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for the Asia-Pacific Regional Office in Bangkok from 1983-1995. This event was held to celebrate the 155th anniversary of Thailand-Austria-Hungary Formal Relations.

          Dr. Chongrak Wachrinrat presided over the event, welcoming all participants before leading H.E. Dr. Sandor Sipos and Ms. Kamilla Balla on a tour of Thai agricultural life at the Office of Agricultural Museum and Culture. The tour showcased traditional Thai tools for rice farming, animal trapping, household items from the past, and a demonstration of playing the "Ranad" and the "Khaen." The group then planted a Senna surattensis (Burm.f.) H.S.Irwin & Barneby, a medicinal herb known for its fever-reducing properties, and took group photos together, symbolizing the strong relationship between the two sides. Somrom Khon Krung Park @Thung Bang Khen is another good location for exchange students to visit and learn about Thai plants and herbs.
