The year 1999 is one of the most auspicious time of the Thais when the people celebrate the sixth cycle Birthday Anniversary of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Throughout his 52 years reign, the King has worked tirelessly to search for ways to improve the lives of farmers who are the backbone of the nation.
His Majesty initiated a "New theory" concept of agricultural development in 1974 to help poor farmers with limited area of productive land to achieve economic self-reliance.
The most important aspect of the system is soil and water management, which maximize the efficiency of the integrated farming and animal husbandry. The land is divided into 4 parts by the ratio of 3:3:3:1 for the water reservoir, paddy field, the integrated farming and living area, respectively. At present the "New Theory" is adopted by farmers in many provinces all over the country who are proud to be part of the Project.
"We are happy and no longer worry about food because we grow all we need on our land. Our children do not migrate into town as they have work to do on the farm all year round.
A complimentary tour will be offered on September 4 to visit a project under the supervision of one of the Privy Councilors, Mr. Ampol Senanarong, the Chairman of the Kasetsart University Council.
